Club to Country

The Farmers Club’s expanded Club-to-Country programme takes the Club to its membership across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom

Visiting members at their local shows is a crucial part of Club activities. This year the Club-to-Country initiative is expected to involve well over 5% of the membership, using the agricultural shows and their infrastructure to reach out from our London base to connect with members across the country.

The events are attended by the Chairman and Secretary, and usually involve the speaking services of a prominent local (sometimes national) speaker, before an update on what is happening at the Club in London. This year’s was is to visit eight showgrounds, with breakfast, reception and dinner events the length and breadth of the UK.

The season started with a splendid dinner reception on the eve of the Balmoral show in Northern Ireland. Next came receptions at the Cornwall Show, the Three Counties (the Chairman’s local show), and the Cheshire Show, with its wonderful cheese marquee.

The evening before the Highland Show over 90 people attended the pre-show dinner at the New Club in Edinburgh, one of our reciprocal clubs, with a particularly memorable talk from Professor Heather McGregor, Executive Dean of the Edinburgh Business School. Further receptions were held at the Kent County, Great Yorkshire and Royal Welsh shows.

This year’s Club-to-Country shows:

  • Royal Balmoral
  • Royal Cornwall
  • Royal Three Counties
  • Royal Cheshire
  • Royal Highland
  • Kent County
  • Great Yorkshire
  • Royal Welsh
