The Harvest edition of the Farmers Club Journal is out, profiling key farming issues and Club news, and a look at what the Club now offers in August (p11), such as the great range of cocktails now on offer from barman Armenio Santos (pictured).

Our cover story is the Club’s hugely successful visit to Ireland (p8) to take a closer look at its vibrant agricultural industry, and huge surge in milk production.

How major estates are adapting to meet modern market needs is covered in a report on the Club’s visit to Nottinghamshire (p12)

NFU Deputy President Minette Batters (p6) addressed the Club at a special post-AGM luncheon. She called for a united industry, across sectors and across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, to grasp a once in a lifetime opportunity ahead of the EU in/out referendum, to convince the Government that farming is key to the nation’s health and economic well-being .

Also in this issue: farming on the sixth form syllabus (p10); Marshal Papworth fund backs Africa (p14); Pinnacle Awards for business management p16); LEAF Open Farm Sunday in figures (p18); Highland Show report (p18); La Traviata visit (p19); and the Under 30s Oxford Farm Walk and Cereals Event reports (20)
