In early November more than 100 members of The Farmers Club attended a very enjoyable Luncheon event at the House of Lords, hosted by the Duke of Montrose, and chaired by 2018 Club Chairman Peter Jinman. Reception drinks were held on the terrace overlooking Thames in the winter sunshine followed by a sit down lunch.
Important issues of farming’s provision of affordable, high quality food, maintenance of high production standards for imports and exports alike, and the need for technology to help drive productivity were well made by guest speaker Lord Trees of the Ross, as members enjoyed a fine lunch in very special surroundings.
The event also witnessed the presentation of the Farmers Club Cup, which is awarded each year to a person who has contributed significantly to agriculture, farming, the environment or rural enterprise.
This year, in line with Club Chairman Peter Jinman’s theme of animal science and science more broadly for the whole year, the Club selected Professor John Webster, Professor Emeritus and Chair of Animal Husbandry at Bristol the University. (see separate article)
